Algerian Parliament

Algiers, Algeria

The future Algerian parliament buildings will be located in the heart of the bay and the new administrative center of the capital.  They will occupy several city blocks and establish a new urban locality in the ravished tissue greatly damaged during the earthquake of 2003.

The choice of site therefore has made this project particularly interesting as it proposes an entirely new chapter of the city’s urban structure.

This first collaboration with the office of Christian de Portzamparc has been a remarkable experience and exploration at multiple scales. From the largest urban dimensions of mass and void, light and shadow, perspective and frontality we designed formal vocabularies, materials and details as well as path and place, specific uses and potentialities. This future quarter of the capital promises to both be a landmark location as well as a positive influence or example for the city’s urban regeneration.
